The resolution proposes an interim study to assess the quality and availability of assistance provided to Nebraska veterans and their families regarding benefits and services related to their military service. The study aims to evaluate several key areas, including the ratio of accredited veteran service officers to veterans in the state, the services offered by these officers, and the federal laws governing their accreditation. Additionally, it will investigate the penalties associated with accreditation, the eligibility determination process for veterans' benefits, and the review process for Veterans Affairs disability claims.
The Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee of the Nebraska Legislature is tasked with conducting this study. The committee is authorized to collaborate with other legislative committees, officers, employees, and relevant stakeholders to gather comprehensive insights. Upon completion of the study, the committee is required to report its findings and recommendations to the Legislative Council or the Legislature.
