The resolution aims to conduct a study on Nebraska's current practices regarding the designation of real property as blighted and substandard. It seeks to evaluate the processes in place to ensure that neighborhood associations are notified and consulted before any such designations are finalized. The study will encompass a review of relevant statutes and administrative procedures, the role of neighborhood associations in community quality of life, existing public notice mechanisms, and the development of recommendations for improved engagement with these associations.
The Urban Affairs Committee of the Nebraska Legislature is tasked with carrying out this interim study. Upon completion, the committee will report its findings and recommendations to the Legislative Council or the Legislature, with the goal of enhancing community involvement in decisions that affect local neighborhoods.
