This bill authorizes certain cities and villages in Nebraska, specifically those classified as primary, first, or second class, to sell or transfer their waterworks, sewer systems, or water systems to an Indian tribe under specific conditions. The sale or transfer must occur entirely within the tribal lands of the Indian tribe and requires approval from the qualified electors of the city or village through a general or special election.
To facilitate this process, the governing body of the city or village must present the proposition to the electorate during a general or special election, which can be held in conjunction with other election matters. The results of the vote will be canvassed and declared in the same manner as any other city or village election. Additionally, the bill defines "Indian tribe" as a tribe or band recognized by federal law or formally acknowledged by the state.
