This bill amends section 29-2709 of the Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska to introduce a state docket fee that will be applied to various civil actions and traffic misdemeanors or infractions filed in the Supreme Court, district courts, county courts, and separate juvenile courts. The proposed fees are set at $116 for civil causes in the district court or Supreme Court, $70 for civil causes in the county court or separate juvenile court, $111 for dissolution cases, $61 for traffic misdemeanors or infractions, and $38 for small claims. The bill also stipulates that the fees collected will be remitted to the State Treasurer, with a portion allocated to the JUSTICE Software Cash Fund and the remainder to the Supreme Court Operations Cash Fund.

Additionally, the bill establishes two new funds: the Supreme Court Operations Cash Fund and the JUSTICE Software Cash Fund. The Supreme Court Operations Cash Fund will be used to support the administrative operations of the court system, while the JUSTICE Software Cash Fund will aid in the costs associated with software purchases and maintenance. The bill also clarifies that counties, cities, or villages will not be required to pay any state docket fee deemed uncollectible. The original section 29-2709 is repealed as part of this legislative update.
