This bill amends section 68-954 of the Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska to allow for the inclusion of antidepressant, antipsychotic, and anticonvulsant prescription drugs on the preferred drug list. Previously, these categories of drugs were excluded from consideration for inclusion. The bill outlines that the department and the pharmaceutical and therapeutics committee will now consider all therapeutic classes of prescription drugs, including the aforementioned categories, for the preferred drug list.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that a prescription drug can be included on the preferred drug list if it is therapeutically equivalent to or superior to an existing drug on the list and if its net cost is equal to or less than that of the listed drug, taking into account any applicable rebates or discounts. The department is also required to maintain an updated preferred drug list in electronic format and make it publicly accessible on its website. The original section 68-954 is repealed as part of this legislative update.
