This bill amends section 68-1215 of the Revised Statutes Cumulative Supplement, 2024, to enhance the low-income home energy assistance program in Nebraska. It establishes a household total annual income eligibility threshold of one hundred fifty percent of the federal poverty level, as determined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Additionally, the bill introduces provisions for crisis assistance payments, allowing the Department of Health and Human Services to provide payments of up to eight hundred dollars per program year to eligible households. It also grants the department the authority to authorize payments exceeding this amount in cases of extenuating circumstances. The original section 68-1215 is repealed as part of this legislative update.
