This bill amends section 69-1311 of the Revised Statutes Supplement, 2025, to update the notice requirements for property presumed abandoned. The State Treasurer is now required to publish notice annually in each county's legal newspaper of general circulation, changing the previous requirement of an English language newspaper. Additionally, the notice must include either the names of individuals in alphabetical order along with their last-known addresses or a display advertisement that covers at least twenty-five percent of a standard broadsheet, detailing how to search for unclaimed property. The bill also clarifies that the State Treasurer is not obligated to publish items valued at less than fifty dollars unless deemed in the public interest.

Furthermore, the bill mandates that within 120 days of receiving the report on presumed abandoned property, the State Treasurer must mail notices to individuals with addresses listed in the report who are entitled to property valued at fifty dollars or more. The mailed notice will inform recipients about the property being held, the name and address of the holder, and the process for claiming the property. The original section 69-1311 is repealed as part of this legislative update.
