This bill mandates the Nebraska State Patrol to conduct a study aimed at enhancing the state's criminal justice resources for reporting and identifying missing Black women and children in Nebraska. The Patrol is required to collaborate with the Commission on African American Affairs, local and state law enforcement, federal agencies, and urban community organizations to assess the extent of the issue, identify obstacles, and foster partnerships that will improve the reporting and investigation processes.
Additionally, the Nebraska State Patrol must work with the United States Department of Justice to enhance information sharing and resource coordination. By June 1, 2027, the Patrol is tasked with submitting an electronic report to the Executive Board of the Legislative Council, which will include data on the number of missing Black women and children, an analysis of barriers to resource allocation, and recommendations for legislative improvements to address these issues.
