This bill amends section 79-730 of the Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska, which pertains to the issuance of high school equivalency diplomas. The key change in the bill is the removal of the requirement that an individual must have attained their eighteenth birthday and that they must be unable to secure a diploma from their last attended high school or that the class they were enrolled in must have graduated for at least one year.

As a result of these amendments, the Commissioner of Education will have greater flexibility in issuing high school equivalency diplomas to individuals who meet the residency and achievement criteria, regardless of their age or the status of their previous high school class. The original section 79-730 is repealed, consolidating the updated provisions into the law.
