The Legislative Resolution recognizes the posthumous achievement of Joe Edmonson, who has been awarded the 2024 Bobby Douglas Legacy Award for his significant contributions to the Black wrestling community. Despite facing life-altering challenges after a trampoline accident in 1964 that left him a quadriplegic, Joe demonstrated remarkable resilience by founding his own wrestling program in 1968 while pursuing a master's degree. He also created the Exploradories program and led the Edmonson Youth Outreach Center at the YMCA, providing mentorship and wrestling opportunities for inner-city youth.

The resolution highlights Joe's numerous accolades throughout his life, including his Gold level certification in the National Coaches Education Program, being named USA Wrestling's 1985 Kids Person of the Year, and his induction into the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994. The Nebraska Legislature expresses its congratulations to Joe Edmonson and his family for this honor, ensuring that his legacy and impact on the wrestling community and beyond are remembered and celebrated. A copy of the resolution will be sent to his family.
