This bill amends several sections of the Nebraska Revised Statutes to redefine and establish new provisions for bed and breakfast establishments. It redefines a "bed and breakfast establishment" to mean a building designed or converted to a single-family dwelling that provides sleeping accommodations and breakfast to transient guests for a single fee, specifically excluding establishments that serve more than ten guest rooms or twenty guests. The bill also updates the Nebraska Pure Food Act to apply to bed and breakfast establishments, mandating that food served must be safe for consumption and outlining specific food handling and storage requirements.

Additionally, the bill requires the State Fire Code to include provisions specifically for bed and breakfast establishments, such as the installation of smoke alarms, heat detectors, and emergency lighting. It mandates that each establishment must have a secondary means of egress or a sprinkler system within eighteen months of the act's effective date. Furthermore, it stipulates that fire extinguishers must be present on each floor and in the kitchen area, and that establishments accommodating more than ten guests and serving hot meals must have a fire suppression hood in the kitchen. The original sections of the statutes being amended are repealed.
