This bill amends section 72-819 of the Revised Statutes Cumulative Supplement, 2024, to clarify the appropriations for the Chief Standing Bear Museum and visitor center. The legislation specifies that the Game and Parks Commission will award grants to a federally recognized Indian tribe for the construction, development, and management of the museum. The intent of the Legislature is to appropriate not more than seven million dollars for fiscal year 2025-26 from the Museum Construction and Maintenance Fund for the construction of the museum and visitor center, a reduction from the previously stated fifteen million dollars. Additionally, it aims to allocate not more than seven million dollars for fiscal year 2026-27 for exhibit fabrication and historical interpretation, replacing the earlier figure of seven hundred fifty thousand dollars for fiscal year 2024-25.

Furthermore, the bill outlines that the Game and Parks Commission will also construct, develop, and manage a museum at Fort Robinson State Park, with an intent to appropriate up to seven million dollars for fiscal year 2025-26 from the same fund. The Commission is authorized to enter into a memorandum of understanding or contract with the Nebraska State Historical Society for museum development and related activities at Fort Robinson State Park. The original section 72-819 is repealed as part of this legislative update.
