This bill amends the Motor Vehicle Registration Act in Nebraska to require only one license plate to be displayed on a motor vehicle, rather than the previous requirement of two. Specifically, it modifies section 60-399 to state that a motor vehicle must display "at least one license plate" instead of "the proper number of plates." Additionally, section 60-3,100 is revised to clarify that when two license plates are issued, only one is required to be displayed, which must be prominently shown on the rear of the vehicle. In cases where only one plate is issued, it will also be displayed on the rear, except for certain vehicles where it may be displayed on the front.
The bill also introduces a provision for vehicles that are not manufactured with a front bracket for a license plate, allowing owners to request a single plate along with a license decal for an additional fee. This decal must be displayed on the driver's side of the windshield. The fees collected from this request will be directed to the Highway Trust Fund. The original sections of the law that mandated two plates are repealed, streamlining the requirements for vehicle registration and license plate display in Nebraska.
