This bill amends section 79-760.01 of the Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska to require the State Board of Education to adopt measurable academic content standards for human embryology as part of the science education standards. The board must implement these standards by March 1, 2026, and ensure they are integrated into school curricula by the start of the 2026-27 school year. The standards will include instruction on human development that accurately reflects biological science, specifically the Carnegie Stages of Human Embryonic Development, and will utilize high-definition visual recordings to illustrate fetal development.
Additionally, the bill allows parents, guardians, or educational decision-makers to opt their students out of the human embryology instruction if they choose. The original section 79-760.01 is repealed, and the bill is declared an emergency measure, taking effect immediately upon passage and approval.
