This bill amends section 68-901 of the Revised Statutes Cumulative Supplement, 2024, to enhance coverage for certain contraceptives under insurance policies and the medical assistance program in Nebraska. It mandates that any individual or group sickness and accident insurance policy, as well as self-funded employee benefit plans, must reimburse healthcare providers for dispensing self-administered hormonal contraceptives approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration. Specifically, the bill allows for reimbursement of up to a three-month supply for the first prescription and up to a twelve-month supply for subsequent refills, regardless of the individual's enrollment status at the time of the first prescription.

Additionally, the bill ensures that the medical assistance program provides a prescription for a twelve-month supply of covered self-administered hormonal contraceptives. It clarifies that healthcare providers are not required to prescribe a twelve-month supply and that individuals can change contraceptive methods without facing cost-sharing for alternative methods if they have not exhausted their previously dispensed supply. The original section 68-901 is repealed as part of this legislative update.
