1 A BILL FOR AN ACT relating to the Nebraska Rules of the Road; to amend
2 sections 60-601 and 60-605, Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska; to
3 define a term; to provide requirements for operation of autonomous
4 vehicles; to harmonize provisions; and to repeal the original
5 sections.
6 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Nebraska,

1 Section 1. Section 60-601, Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska, is
2 amended to read:
3 60-601 Sections 60-601 to 60-6,383 and sections 3 and 4 of this act
4 shall be known and may be cited as the Nebraska Rules of the Road.
5 Sec. 2. Section 60-605, Reissue Revised Statutes of Nebraska, is
6 amended to read:
7 60-605 For purposes of the Nebraska Rules of the Road, the
8 definitions found in sections 60-606 to 60-676 and section 3 of this act
9 shall be used.
10 Sec. 3. Autonomous vehicle means a motor vehicle that has the
11 capability to operate itself and perform necessary functions without any
12 human intervention.
13 Sec. 4. No person shall cause the operation of an autonomous
14 vehicle on any highway unless a person with a valid operator's license is
15 physically present in the autonomous vehicle and has the ability to (1)
16 monitor the performance of the autonomous vehicle and (2) operate the
17 autonomous vehicle.
18 Sec. 5. Original sections 60-601 and 60-605, Reissue Revised
19 Statutes of Nebraska, are repealed.
