1 A BILL FOR AN ACT relating to the Firefighter Cancer Benefits Act; to
2 amend section 35-1002, Revised Statutes Cumulative Supplement, 2022;
3 to provide for reimbursement from the state as prescribed; to
4 harmonize provisions; and to repeal the original section.
5 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Nebraska,

1 Section 1. Section 35-1002, Revised Statutes Cumulative Supplement,
2 2022, is amended to read:
3 35-1002 Sections 35-1002 to 35-1010 and section 2 of this act shall
4 be known and may be cited as the Firefighter Cancer Benefits Act.
5 Sec. 2. (1) The annual cost of premiums for enhanced cancer
6 benefits provided pursuant to the Firefighter Cancer Benefits Act on or
7 after January 1, 2024, by any rural or suburban fire protection district,
8 airport authority, city, village, or nonprofit corporation shall be
9 reimbursed by the State Fire Marshal.
10 (2) To qualify for reimbursement, an entity described in subsection
11 (1) of this section shall submit information regarding the total annual
12 cost of such premiums in a manner prescribed by the State Fire Marshal.
13 (3) It is the intent of the Legislature to appropriate to the State
14 Fire Marshal the money necessary to carry out this section.
15 Sec. 3. Original section 35-1002, Revised Statutes Cumulative
16 Supplement, 2022, is repealed.
