1 A BILL FOR AN ACT relating to the Commercial Dog and Cat Operator
2 Inspection Act; to amend section 54-625, Revised Statutes Cumulative
3 Supplement, 2018; to prohibit certain public entities from charging
4 a fee for adoption or purchases of a dog or cat by a veteran as
5 prescribed; to harmonize provisions; and to repeal the original
6 section.

1 Section 1. Section 54-625, Revised Statutes Cumulative Supplement,
2 2018, is amended to read:
3 54-625 Sections 54-625 to 54-643 and section 2 of this act shall be
4 known and may be cited as the Commercial Dog and Cat Operator Inspection
5 Act.
6 Sec. 2. (1) A public animal shelter, animal rescue, or animal
7 control facility operated by a county, city, or other political
8 subdivision shall not charge a fee for adoption or purchase of a dog or
9 cat if the person adopting or purchasing a dog or cat from such public
10 shelter, rescue, or facility presents a current and valid driver's
11 license or state identification card with a veteran designation on such
12 license or card as provided in section 60-4,189.
13 (2) The number of dogs or cats adopted from a public animal shelter,
14 animal rescue, or animal control facility pursuant to this section may be
15 limited to one dog and one cat from such shelter, rescue, or facility
16 each six-month period.
17 Sec. 3. Original section 54-625, Revised Statutes Cumulative
18 Supplement, 2018, is repealed.
