This bill mandates a legislative management study on the feasibility of developing geothermal energy in North Dakota during the 2025-26 interim. The study will evaluate several key areas, including the state's geological potential for geothermal resource exploration and production, support mechanisms for startup geothermal companies, the application of geothermal energy to enhance the productivity of nonproductive oil and gas wells, and other opportunities to promote geothermal energy development within the state.

At the conclusion of the study, the legislative management is required to report its findings and recommendations to the seventieth legislative assembly, including any necessary legislation to implement these recommendations. This initiative aims to explore and potentially expand the state's energy sector through the utilization of geothermal energy resources.
