This bill establishes the North Dakota Center for Aerospace Medicine under the University of North Dakota's School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The center is tasked with providing mental health resources and assistance for medical certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to flight students, pilots, and aviation professionals. It aims to enhance access to mental health resources, support aviation medical examiners, facilitate collaboration on aviation and space medicine research, and provide education and outreach on mental health.
Additionally, the bill includes a one-time appropriation of $250,000 from the community health trust fund and an additional $250,000 from other federal or private sources to support the planning, development, and operation of the center. This funding will cover personnel recruitment, facility costs, professional development, and initial research for the biennium from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027.
