This bill establishes the Theodore Roosevelt National Park Working Group, which will be chaired by a member of the legislative assembly and include representatives from various sectors, including the parks and recreation department, tourism, agriculture, and nonprofit organizations focused on horse protection. The group is tasked with managing the population of wild horses in the park, ensuring it remains above 200, and promoting these horses to enhance tourism. They will meet quarterly and are required to submit an annual report to the legislative management detailing their plans and recommendations for managing the wild horse population.
Additionally, the bill appropriates $49,500 from the general fund to the Department of Commerce to support the administration of the working group for the biennium from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. The working group is empowered to make humane management recommendations, including birth control and removals, and may enter agreements with the National Park Service and private entities to address issues related to the wild horses.
