This bill proposes an appropriation of $3,300,000 from the general fund to the legislative assembly for the hiring of temporary legislative assistants during legislative sessions for the biennium from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. This funding aims to support each legislator in defraying the expenses associated with hiring these assistants.
Additionally, the bill mandates the director of the office of management and budget to conduct an analysis of office space within the capitol. This analysis will identify state agencies that occupy excess space due to the shift towards hybrid and remote work arrangements over the past five years. The director is tasked with providing recommendations for consolidating office space, including hoteling options and the reduction of meeting room space, as well as determining suitable workspace for the temporary legislative assistants. The findings and recommendations are to be submitted to the legislative management by August 15, 2026.
