This bill proposes the establishment of a new dementia response program within the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services, to be overseen by a state dementia coordinator. The program aims to implement and regularly update a comprehensive Alzheimer's and dementia state plan, which will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including individuals living with dementia, their caregivers, and professionals in the medical and care fields. Additionally, the program will focus on collecting and disseminating relevant data regarding Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as launching a public awareness campaign to reduce stigma and promote early detection and diagnosis.
To support the implementation of this program, the bill includes an appropriation of $250,000 from the state general fund for the biennium from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. This funding will be allocated for the administration of the dementia response program, the behavioral risk factor surveillance models, and to support a full-time equivalent position for the state dementia coordinator.
