This bill proposes the establishment of a new section in chapter 50-06 of the North Dakota Century Code to create a dementia response program, which will be overseen by a state dementia coordinator. The program aims to implement and regularly update an Alzheimer's and dementia state plan every three years, involving a diverse work group that includes individuals living with dementia, their caregivers, healthcare professionals, and representatives from relevant organizations. Additionally, the program will focus on collecting and disseminating data related to Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as launching a statewide public awareness campaign to reduce stigma and promote early detection and diagnosis.

To support the implementation of this program, the bill includes an appropriation of $250,000 from the general fund for the biennium beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2027. This funding will be allocated to the Department of Health and Human Services for administering the dementia response program and for a full-time equivalent position dedicated to the role of state dementia coordinator.
