This bill establishes a new section in chapter 54-07 of the North Dakota Century Code to create a children's cabinet aimed at coordinating care for children and families across state government and tribal nations. The cabinet will consist of various members, including the governor or their designee, the chief justice of the supreme court, legislative representatives, and other appointed individuals from education, health services, and tribal nations. The cabinet is tasked with meeting quarterly, developing strategies to address gaps in services, and providing a comprehensive vision for children's care. It will also oversee designated working groups and report annually to the legislative management and governor on its activities and findings.
Additionally, the bill repeals section 50-06-43.1 of the North Dakota Century Code, which previously related to the children's cabinet. The new provisions include specific duties for the cabinet, such as coordinating leadership across agencies, engaging public and private service providers, and ensuring active participation from consumers and providers. The governor's office will provide administrative support, and members of the cabinet and working groups will be entitled to reimbursement for expenses and per diem compensation as applicable.
