The bill amends section 15.1-13-12.1 of the North Dakota Century Code to update the requirements for obtaining and maintaining a lifetime teaching license. It reduces the required teaching experience from thirty years to twenty-five years for an individual to qualify for lifetime licensure. Additionally, the bill clarifies that the education standards and practices board retains the authority to take action against an individual's lifetime license if deemed necessary.
Furthermore, the bill introduces new reporting requirements for individuals holding a lifetime license who are employed or intend to be employed as teachers. These individuals must provide a report to the board at least once every five years, detailing any criminal violations since the issuance of the lifetime license or the last report, as well as any information that could lead to the revocation or suspension of their teaching license. The report must be submitted in a manner prescribed by the board and should not incur any costs for the individual.
