This bill appropriates $3,500,000 from the strategic investment and improvements fund to the attorney general for a peace officer and correctional officer appreciation grant program for the biennium from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027. The funds will be distributed to city and county law enforcement agencies based on the number of licensed peace officers and correctional officers they employ relative to the total employed across all agencies. A minimum of $750,000 is designated for agencies with ten or fewer employees in law enforcement roles. The funding is intended for retention bonuses for current officers and tuition payments for law enforcement trainees.

Additionally, the bill mandates that during the 2025-26 interim, the attorney general must report to the legislative management on the utilization and effectiveness of the grant funds, including the number of grants awarded, average bonus amounts, and other outcomes related to the program. This appropriation is classified as a one-time funding item.
