The bill amends section 36-25-01 of the North Dakota Century Code to update the definition of "farmed elk." The new definition specifies that farmed elk are mammals of the North American elk genus and species (cervus canadensis) that are confined in a manmade enclosure designed to prevent escape. This replaces the previous definition, which referred to the elk family (cervus elaphus) and excluded red deer.

Additionally, the bill clarifies the purposes for which farmed elk may be raised, including for fiber, meat, animal byproducts, breeding, exhibition, harvest, or any other purpose. The terms "Board" and "Commissioner" remain unchanged, referring to the state board of animal health and the agriculture commissioner, respectively.
