1 A concurrent resolution urging the Postmaster General of the United States Postal Service to
2 issue a postage stamp commemorating Theodore Roosevelt and the opening of the Theodore
3 Roosevelt Presidential Library.
4 WHEREAS, Theodore Roosevelt was an American statesman, conservationist, historian,
5 and writer, who served as the 26th President of the United States; and
6 WHEREAS, before becoming President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt ranched
7 and hunted in the 1880s near Medora, North Dakota and is credited with saying, "I never would
8 have been President if it had not been for my experiences in North Dakota"; and
9 WHEREAS, after becoming President, Theodore Roosevelt used his authority to protect
10 wildlife and public lands by creating the United States Forest Service and establishing
11 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, 4 national game preserves, 5 national parks, and
12 18 national monuments by enabling the 1906 American Antiquities Act; and
13 WHEREAS, the Sixty-sixth Legislative Assembly approved an endowment for a proposed
14 Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in 2019; and
15 WHEREAS, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library will be a museum and facility for
16 the records of Theodore Roosevelt and will be located at a site to the west of Medora, near the
17 Theodore Roosevelt National Park; and
18 WHEREAS, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is expected to be open to the
19 public in 2025; and
20 WHEREAS, Theodore Roosevelt's legacy, his contributions to America's history, and the
21 opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library should be celebrated and
22 commemorated;
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF NORTH DAKOTA, THE
24 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN:

1 That the Sixty-eighth Legislative Assembly urges the Postmaster General of the United
2 States Postal Service to issue a postage stamp commemorating Theodore Roosevelt and the
3 opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library; and
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary of State forward a copy of this resolution
5 to the Postmaster General of the United States Postal Service and each member of the North
6 Dakota Congressional Delegation.
