1    A BILL for an Act to amend and reenact sections 1-03-01 and 1-03-02 of the North Dakota
2    Century Code, relating to recognizing Juneteenth and Native American Heritage Day as
3    holidays; and to repeal section 1-03-18 of the North Dakota Century Code, relating to
4    Juneteenth.
5    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF NORTH DAKOTA:
6        SECTION 1. AMENDMENT. Section 1-03-01 of the North Dakota Century Code is amended
7    and reenacted as follows:
8        1-03-01. Holidays.
9        1.   Holidays are as follows:
10       1.   a.     Every Sunday.
11       2.   b.     The first day of January, which is New Year's Day.
12       3.   c.     The third Monday of January, which is Martin Luther King Day, in recognition of
13                   the life, legacy, and dream of Martin Luther King, Jr.
14       4.   d.     The third Monday in February, in recognition of the birthday of George
15                   Washington.
16       5.   e.     The Friday next preceding Easter Sunday and commonly known as Good Friday.
17       6.    f.    The last Monday in May, which is Memorial Day.
18       7.   g.     The nineteenth day of June, which is Juneteenth.
19            h.     The fourth day of July, which is the anniversary of the Declaration of
20                   Independence.
21       8.    i.    The first Monday in September, which is Labor Day.
22       9.    j.    The eleventh day of November, which is Veterans' Day.
23      10.   k.     The fourth Thursday in November, which is Thanksgiving Day.
24             l.    The fourth Friday in November, which is Native American Heritage Day.

1       11.   m.       The twenty-fifth day of December, which is Christmas Day.
2       12.    n.      Every day appointed by the President of the United States or by the governor of
3                      this state for a public holiday.
4    Nothing in this
5        2.   This section may not be construed to prevent the holding of legislative sessions or the
6             taking of final action on any legislative matter upon any of suchthe holidays other than
7             Sunday. Any action heretofore taken upon any legislative matter upon any such
8             holiday is valid and legal for all purposes.
9        SECTION 2. AMENDMENT. Section 1-03-02 of the North Dakota Century Code is amended
10   and reenacted as follows:
11       1-03-02. When day following holiday shall be a holiday.
12       If the first day of January, the nineteenth day of June, the fourth day of July, the eleventh
13   day of November, or the twenty-fifth day of December falls upon a Sunday, the Monday
14   following shall be the holiday.
15       SECTION 3. REPEAL. Section 1-03-18 of the North Dakota Century Code is repealed.
