1    A BILL for an Act to create and enact a new section to chapter 43-11 of the North Dakota
2    Century Code, relating to cosmetology apprenticeship programs.
3    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF NORTH DAKOTA:
4        SECTION 1. A new section to chapter 43-11 of the North Dakota Century Code is created
5    and enacted as follows:
6        Apprentice programs.
7        1.   A board-approved salon may have an apprentice program. To qualify for board
8             approval:
9             a.     A salon must have at least one board-approved cosmetologist and must comply
10                   with rules adopted by the board.
11            b.     A cosmetologist must have been licensed as a cosmetologist for at least eight
12                   years, must be an instructor, and must be working as a cosmetologist for a
13                   minimum of twenty-five hours per week.
14       2.   A student may qualify to be an apprentice if the student has completed at least
15            six hundred hours of cosmetology education and completed the standards of the
16            school of cosmetology. An apprentice may assist in any of the practices of
17            cosmetology under the immediate direction and supervision of a board-approved
18            cosmetologist. An apprentice may obtain no more than three hundred hours of
19            apprenticeship experience in the practice of cosmetology.
