 1   A concurrent resolution requesting the Legislative Management to consider studying provisions
 2   of the North Dakota Century Code relating to compulsory school attendance, including a
 3   comparison of compulsory school attendance laws in other states.
 4       WHEREAS, the state's statutory framework for compulsory school attendance is codified as
 5   North Dakota Century Code Chapter 15.1-20; and
 6       WHEREAS, since the last elementary and secondary education statutory revision, which
 7   was completed in 2001, minimal changes have been made relating to compulsory school
 8   attendance laws; and
 9       WHEREAS, the education system is evolving; and
10       WHEREAS, there are questions whether the existing compulsory school attendance
11   provisions are appropriate and reflect best practices under the evolving education system in the
12   state; and
13       WHEREAS, a comprehensive review of the compulsory school attendance statutory
14   framework is essential for setting clear objectives and expectations for education in the state;
15       NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
16   NORTH DAKOTA, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN:
17       That the Legislative Management consider studying provisions of the North Dakota Century
18   Code relating to compulsory school attendance, including a comparison of compulsory school
19   attendance laws in other states; and
20       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Legislative Management report its findings and
21   recommendations, together with any legislation required to implement the recommendations, to
22   the Sixty-eighth Legislative Assembly.
