3 COMPILE AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ON SUDDEN UNEXPECTED
4 DEATH IN EPILEPSY INFORMATION TO HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS AND
5 PROVIDE A CORRESPONDING REPORT TO THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE
6 OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES.
7 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
8 SECTION 1. The Department of Health and Human Services (Department) shall
9 consult with the North Carolina Medical Board, North Carolina Board of Nursing, North Carolina
10 Board of Pharmacy, and the North Carolina Nurses Association to gather evidence-based
11 information on sudden unexpected death in epilepsy from publications and nonprofit
12 organizations to create standard information to provide to all health care practitioners in this
13 State. The information shall include, at a minimum, current and evidence-based information
14 about sudden unexpected death in epilepsy risk factors and conditions and contact information
15 for nonprofit organizations that provide support services for epilepsy conditions. The information
16 shall be made available on the Department's website and readily accessible to health care
17 practitioners in this State. No later than April 1, 2024, the Department shall report to the Joint
18 Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services a completed summary or
19 booklet of information provided to health care practitioners in the report.
20 SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
