Short Title: No Cryptocurrency Payments to State. (Public)

2 AN ACT TO PROHIBIT PAYMENTS IN CRYPTOCURRENCY TO THE STATE.
3 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
4 SECTION 1. Article 6A of Chapter 147 of the General Statutes is amended by
5 adding a new section to read:
6 "§ 147-86.19. Cryptocurrency payments prohibited.
7 (a) The following definitions apply in this section:
8 (1) Cryptocurrency. – Digital or virtual currency that relies on cryptography to
9 effect transfers and a decentralized network to record transactions.
10 (2) State agency. – Includes any institution, bureau, board, commission, officer,
11 or political subdivision of the State.
12 (b) No State agency shall accept a payment using cryptocurrency."
13 SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
