2 AN ACT TO REQUIRE ACCEPTANCE OF CASH AND SENIOR TAR HEEL CARDS FOR
3 ADMISSION TO HIGH SCHOOL INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES.
4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
5 SECTION 1. G.S. 115C-407.55 reads as rewritten:
6 "§ 115C-407.55. Rules for high school interscholastic athletic activities.
7 The State Board of Education shall adopt rules governing high school interscholastic athletic
8 activities conducted by public school units that include the following:
9 …
10 (10) Entry rules. – These rules shall establish requirements related to fees charged
11 to any student or member of the public to attend any interscholastic athletic
12 activity. As a minimum, the rules shall require the following:
13 a. When an admission fee is charged to an interscholastic athletic
14 activity, cash shall be accepted as a form of payment for admissions at
15 the time of the event.
16 b. An individual issued a Tar Heel Card for senior citizens by the
17 Department of Health and Human Services shall receive free
18 admission to any interscholastic athletic activity upon display of that
19 card to the admissions staff for the activity."
20 SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law and applies beginning with
21 the 2023-2024 school year.
