The bill revises the requirements for training materials for school bus drivers, specifically focusing on human trafficking recognition. It removes the previous mandate that required school bus drivers to complete a transportation industry-specific human trafficking recognition training course as part of their qualifications. Instead, the bill directs the Office of Public Instruction to provide cost-free, transportation industry-specific training materials that school bus drivers can use to complete a training course on recognizing and reporting signs of human trafficking as part of their annual training requirements.
Additionally, the bill encourages the Office of Public Instruction to engage in activities aimed at educating the public about child sex trafficking prevention. This includes providing resources for parents, teachers, and community members, as well as supporting school districts in developing policies and educational materials related to child sex trafficking awareness and prevention. The effective date for the implementation of this act is set for July 1, 2025.
