4 A BILL FOR AN ACT ENTITLED: “AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE ARTHUR JOHN RAMBO MEMORIAL
5 BRIDGE; AND DIRECTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO INSTALL SIGNS.”

7 WHEREAS, Arthur John Rambo was born December 16, 1944, to Viola and Howard Rambo of Libby,
8 Montana; and
9 WHEREAS, Arthur grew up on a ranch outside Libby. He had a vibrant family life with sister Kathleen
10 and brother Dan, and was active in the community through baseball, school choir, talent shows, and plays; and
11 WHEREAS, Arthur studied engineering at Carroll College and sang in the chorus, where he met his
12 wife Helen Ryan. They graduated in 1966, married in Dillon, Montana, in 1967, and had a daughter, Kerry Lynn;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, Arthur was drafted and did not seek an exemption that he was eligible for, and he moved
15 his new family to Libby, where his wife became a teacher; and
16 WHEREAS, after 11 months in the Army, Arthur was promoted to Staff Sergeant; and
17 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Rambo arrived in Vietnam in August 1969. On November 26, 1969, his unit
18 came under attack, and Staff Sergeant Rambo worked heroically under fire to save his crew members and their
19 military assets. He sustained fatal injuries and was awarded the Silver Star; and
20 WHEREAS, Arthur was survived by his wife, Helen, his daughter, Kerry Lynn, his newborn daughter
21 Amy, and his extended family; and
22 WHEREAS, the Libby community asks that we honor the sacrifice and admirable life of Arthur John
23 Rambo.

25 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MONTANA:

27 NEW SECTION. Section 1. Arthur John Rambo memorial bridge. (1) The bridge spanning the
28 Kootenai River in Libby, Montana, on highway 37 is dedicated to Arthur John Rambo.

1 (2) The department shall design and install appropriate signs on each end of the bridge marking
2 the Arthur John Rambo memorial.
3 (3) The department shall design and install a memorial plaque at a location near the bridge.

5 NEW SECTION. Section 2. Codification instruction. [Section 1] is intended to be codified as an
6 integral part of Title 60, chapter 1, part 2, and the provisions of Title 60, chapter 1, part 2, apply to [section 1].
