WHEREAS, the safety and mobility of Missouri's local communities are heavily 2 dependent on the critical infrastructure maintained by county and municipal road crews and 3 utility lineworkers; and 4 5 WHEREAS, during severe winter weather events, these dedicated local workers 6 serve as the frontline defense against hazardous travel conditions and power outages; and 7 8 WHEREAS, local road crews and lineworkers often begin their operations in the 9 dark, early morning hours before a storm hits and continue working through freezing 10 temperatures and blinding snow to ensure that emergency routes, residential streets, and 11 school paths are cleared and that essential utilities are restored; and 12 13 WHEREAS, the work of these individuals is physically demanding and inherently 14 dangerous, requiring the operation of heavy machinery on slick, unpredictable surfaces and 15 climbing or repairing high-voltage lines in treacherous conditions to protect the lives of their 16 fellow citizens; and 17 18 WHEREAS, the tireless efforts of local public works and street departments 19 alongside utility crews allow first responders to reach those in need, parents to transport 20 children safely, families to maintain heat and power, and the local economy to remain 21 functional even in the harshest climates; and 22 23 WHEREAS, these workers frequently sacrifice holidays and time with their own 24 families during emergencies to serve the public good, often working rotating shifts until every 25 local road is safe for travel and every critical utility is restored: 26 HCR 47 2
27 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of 28 Representatives of the One Hundred Third General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the 29 Senate concurring therein, hereby express their profound gratitude and honor the local road 30 crews and utility lineworkers across the State of Missouri for their bravery, resilience, and 31 unwavering commitment to public safety during winter weather emergencies; and 32 33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly encourages all 34 Missourians to recognize the grit and dedication of these local heroes and to exercise 35 extreme caution and patience while crews are working to clear snow and ice from community 36 streets and restore essential services; and 37 38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of 39 Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for the 40 Missouri Municipal League, the State Association of County Commissioners, and the 41 Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives for distribution to local road departments and 42 utility providers throughout the state. ✔
