The bill amends chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri by adding a new section,
376.1211, which mandates that health benefit plans providing pregnancy-related benefits for more than twenty-five employees must include coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility starting August 28, 2026. This coverage must encompass various infertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization, embryo transfer, artificial insemination, and medically necessary oocyte cryopreservation for patients undergoing treatments that significantly impair fertility, such as chemotherapy. The bill defines infertility and outlines the conditions under which in vitro fertilization coverage is required, including prior unsuccessful attempts at less costly treatments and limitations on the number of oocyte retrievals.
Additionally, the bill specifies that individuals qualifying for coverage for procedures other than in vitro fertilization will not face additional approval conditions. However, it also includes a provision exempting health benefit plans issued to or by religious institutions or organizations from covering these procedures if they conflict with the institution's religious and moral beliefs.
