The bill amends chapter 167 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri by adding a new section,
167.628, which establishes guidelines for the use of sunscreen in public schools, including charter schools. It defines "sunscreen" as a compound applied topically to prevent sunburn and allows students to possess and self-apply sunscreen without needing authorization from a parent or physician, provided the sunscreen is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Additionally, if a student is unable to self-apply sunscreen, a school employee may assist with the application, given that the student's parent or guardian has provided written consent. The bill also includes provisions that protect school employees and their employers from liability for any adverse reactions resulting from the application of sunscreen or for discontinuing its application at any time.
