HB 2492 -- FIREARMS

SPONSOR: Weber

This bill authorizes a person to waive his or her right to purchase a firearm by submitting a request to the Department of Public Safety. The Department must verify the identity of the person who submitted the request prior to accepting the waiver. While the waiver is in effect, no person shall sell or otherwise transfer a firearm to the person who voluntarily waived the right to purchase a firearm.

A person with a voluntary waiver may designate one or more contact person(s) who will be contacted by the Department if the person in receipt of the waiver attempts to purchase a firearm while the waiver is in effect, or if the person revokes the waiver.

All forms and records related to a voluntary waiver must be closed and destroyed upon the revocation of the waiver. A voluntary waiver will remain in effect for 30 days after the Department accepts a revocation.

Any person that attempts to submit a voluntary waiver on behalf of another person will be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.

This bill is the same as SB 1018 (2026).
