HB 2390 -- PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN SCHOOLS

This bill establishes "Quinton's Law" and requires school districts and charter schools, beginning in the 2027-28 school year, to provide students in grades K-8 with a minimum of 15 minutes of recess and two daily brain breaks of at least three minutes. Schools may not withhold recess or breaks for disciplinary reasons and the bill provides rulemaking authority to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide guidance on allowable activities, professional development for teachers, data reporting, and procedures for waivers under exceptional circumstances.
