HB 2307 -- OFFICIAL STATE MILITARY ACADEMY

SPONSOR: Haden

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Special Committee on Tourism by a vote of 10 to 0.

This bill designates the Missouri Military Academy in the city of Mexico as the official military academy of the State.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this designation would bring elevated prestige to the academy. The academy is the only military academy in the state and it is a large economic driver for the city of Mexico. The academy competes in national competitions, hosts seven large events every year, and helps students with discipline and build structure in their lives. This designation would also help with recruitment.

Testifying in person for the bill were Representative Haden; Dan Houx; Jennifer O'Donley, Missouri Military Academy; John Murphy; Richard V. Geraci, Missouri Military Academy; Arnie C. Dienoff.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
