Currently, a person commits the offense of unlawful possession of a firearm if such person knowingly has any firearm in his or her possession and:
(1) Has been convicted of a felony; or
(2) Is a fugitive, is habitually intoxicated, or is currently adjudged mentally incompetent.
This bill also makes it an offense if the person is in possession of a firearm and is not a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
