HB 1828 -- FUNDS FOR MEMORIALS AND MUSEUMS DEDICATED TO VETERANS

SPONSOR: Violet

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Special Committee on Tourism by a vote of 12 to 0. Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Rules-Administrative by a vote of 11 to 0.

This bill provides that funds totaling no more than $500,000 from the Veterans Commission Capital Improvement Trust Fund will be used for the restoration, renovation, and maintenance of a memorial or museum dedicated to Missouri and United States veterans in Perry County.

This bill is similar to HB 1482 (2025) and SB 745 (2025).

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the money would be going to a Vietnam War memorial in Perryville. The memorial is for healing and education for veterans, their children, and other visitors. This would allow the memorial to plan better for future maintenance costs.

Testifying in person for the bill were Representative Violet and Missouri National Veterans Memorial.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony and witnesses testifying online can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
