HB 1834 -- ENTICEMENT OF A CHILD

SPONSOR: Kelley

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Judiciary by a vote of 10 to 0.

Currently, the offense of enticement of a child is committed by a person who is 21 years old or older against a victim who is under 17 years old. This bill increases the age of the victim to under 18 years old.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that, a few years ago, statutes related to raise the age, where the age of a minor went from under 17 years old to under 18 years old, were changed but one was missed. Prosecutors are saying that, because they are not cohesive, they cannot prosecute. This is the last piece that needs to be changed.

Testifying in person for the bill were Representative Kelley; Arnie C. Dienoff .

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Written testimony has been submitted for this bill. The full written testimony and witnesses testifying online can be found under Testimony on the bill page on the House website.
