HB 1678 -- HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS TRAINING

This bill requires every employee of a lodging establishment and every operator of a short-term rental property, as that term is defined in the bill, to receive human trafficking awareness training within 180 days of employment or the first listing of a short-term rental property on a hosting platform. After the first year of employment or listing, the training is required on an annual basis no later than December 31st.

The bill requires every operator of a lodging establishment or short-term rental property to implement procedures for the reporting of suspected human trafficking, either to the national hotline or to a local law enforcement agency.

An operator of a lodging establishment or a short-term rental property is required to maintain records of employee or operator training, and must keep these records on file during the time period in which the employee is employed or the operator is managing the property listing, as well as for one year after employment or operation ends. Records must be provided to the Department of Public Safety within a reasonable amount of time after a request is made in writing, but cannot exceed 10 business days.
