HB 1564 -- PURPOSE BUILT STUDENT HOUSING

This bill defines "purpose-built student housing" as any housing designed for student renters who are attending an institution of higher education.

Renters of purpose-built student housing have specific rights as outlined in the bill. Leases for purpose-built student housing must include transparent fees, conflict resolution, health disclosures taken into consideration, lease modification due to a change in academic status as provided, information with regards to subleasing, right-of-first-refusal, lease renewal, and the provision of essential or academic services by such landlord, as defined in the bill.

The Attorney General and the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development will create a flyer for landlords of purpose- built student housing to provide to student renters.
