HB 1547 -- PAYMENTS FOR VASECTOMIES

This bill authorizes, subject to appropriation into the newly created "Vasectomy Fund", a state assistance program to fully cover the cost of vasectomies for uninsured residents of the state, for which every male resident without employer-sponsored or public health insurance is eligible without regard to income or resource limits. The Department of Social Services is prohibited from requiring a finding of medical necessity or establish eligibility restrictions other than what is specified in the bill.

The bill additionally requires health carriers and health benefit plans to provide coverage for vasectomies for all plans delivered, issued, continued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026; such carriers are prohibited from requiring a finding of medical necessity and services rendered are not be subject to any greater deductible or co-payment than any other service provided by the carrier or benefit plan. This provision does not apply to supplemental insurance policies.
