SPONSOR: Harbison
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "Do Pass" by the Standing Committee on Agriculture by a vote of 20 to 0.
This bill prohibits a person advertising or selling wood products from misrepresenting a product as a wood product if the product is not derived or harvested from wood.
This bill is the same as SB 760 (2025).
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that consumers have a right to know what they are purchasing. This bill would prevent companies from labeling products as a wood product if it is not made from wood. Companies, especially from certain foreign countries, promote products as hardwood that are not made from wood products.
Testifying in person for the bill were Representative Harbison; Missouri Forest Products Association; and Arnie C. Dienoff.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
