This bill prohibits the use of mifepristone to perform or induce an abortion, except in cases of medical emergency, without also providing a written notice to the person who is considering the abortion.
The written notice is provided in the bill and must be approved by the Department of Health and Senior Services, which is also required to publish in state-prepared printed material and on a state-prepared website statements on informed consent for the reversal of an abortion.
The bill also requires the Departments of Elementary and Secondary Education and Higher Education and Workforce Development to develop a similar public awareness sign to be displayed in every restroom in secondary schools and higher education institutions in the state.
This bill requires hospital emergency rooms to display a similar public awareness sign in waiting areas and patient facilities, as well as a sign in waiting areas and patient facilities directing patients to share with their health care provider if they have had an abortion, including if the person has taken abortion pills obtained online, so that the patient's medical treatment can be as effective as possible.
